Make a Web Page (or change access) for Your Student Organization

  Student organizations can obtain space on icarus to mount web pages, and they can have these pages reachable from the UIC home page. You may request space (or changes in who can access this space) in the form below.

Rules about web pages:

  • Generic accounts are not assigned for this purpose. All write access to the web files goes through personal icarus accounts.
  • One person from the organization must take principal responsibility for the web page, but a few others may have write access to the web files, to help maintain the pages. Each person must have his/her own personal icarus account. Sharing passwords is a violation of Computer Center policy, and will result in the suspension of computer accounts.
  • If a group of people maintain a web page, it is their own responsibility to set unix permissions so that the web server can serve the files, and so that the various people continue to have write access to the files.
  • Dynamic counters are not supported by the Computer Center. However, automatic log analysis is provided, to those who want it, to find out how many times their pages are accessed (and some other things).

Although this guide is oriented toward personal home pages, the advice about html and unix commands/permissions applies to all web pages.
