Webalizer |
||
|
Webalizer generates reports of the accesses to your web pages based on web server logs. Webalizer has been reasonably reliable, but, occasionally, the updates are delayed; and, on rare occasions, the updates are missed entirely. So you can expect it to work, but don't worry if you miss data for a day here or there. You don't run webalizer by yourself, directly. You make an empty directory, named webalizer. Then, once a day, the system finds your webalizer directory, runs the analysis, and leaves the report in your webalizer directory. Do not change the output files. If webalizer finds an existing report, it will update it for you, extending the report for another day. It is important that webalizer be able to read the earlier report. If you screw up an existing report, or delete it, neither webalizer nor I am responsible for any garbage in any further reports. Place the webalizer directory in the top directory of your set of web directories, because webalizer will then provide a report for that directory and all subdirectories.
Suppose you are in charge of department XYZ, and your homepage is
at:
cd /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/depts/XYZ
mkdir webalizer
After that just wait. The next day, you should have a report
at: http://www.uic.edu/depts/XYZ/webalizer/
