Lynda.com campus wide FREE online training tutorials

Overview

The Academic Computing and Communications Center (ACCC) is expanding and enhancing its computer training workshops program by licensing the entire library of the Lynda.com online training tutorials, campus-wide, on a yearly basis. Access is available today to all UIC students, faculty and staff.

Accessing Lynda.com tutorials

On-campus :: simply visit iplogin.lynda.com, search for a title you wish to explore, or take, and click away to begin the tutorial(s). You have full access to all titles and sections in the Lynda.com library.

Off-campus :: login with your UIC netid and password using the special UIC URL: http://proxy.cc.uic.edu/login?url=http://www.lynda.com/ipprogram/iplogin.aspx and proceed as if you were on campus (see above). Please note that you may not be prompted to login if you have recently logged into Webmail or other UIC authenticated systems while off campus.

Getting help :: contact the ACCC Instructional Technology Lab (ITL) at itl@uic.edu or 312-996-9824, or email ACCC Computer Training Workshops directly at workshops@uic.edu

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q) Why can I not access the tutorials from off campus, I clicked on the "off-campus link".
A) Make sure you are using your UIC netid (in lower-case) as your login, instead of using your full UIC email address. Also make sure to use your UIC password (always in mixed case); the same password you use to login to Webmail.

Q) Why was I not asked to authenticate when I arrived at lynda.com from off campus?
A) If you recently logged in to Webmail or other UIC Bluestem Websites, you may not be prompted to log in. Just proceed to search for a tutorial of interest and click away.

Q) Do we have access to the full library or just the "free sample training"?
A) Everyone at UIC has access to the full library of the lynda.com tutorials.

Q) I do not have QuickTime installed on my computer, how can I view these tutorials?
A) QuickTime is required in order to view the tutorials. It is a free download and can be installed from the following link. If you are on campus you may need to speak with your IT department if you are not able to install the plug-in onto your work machine. Download the free QuickTime player.

Q) I was kicked out of my training session because it "timed-out", why?
A) That would happen because the UIC Bluestem authentication does indeed time out. Simply login again (close your browser and re-launch it if you have to and login again (and at least once every hour open a new window and run another Bluestem-authenticated application, like Webmail (webmail.uic.edu) and click on it just so your Bluestem authentication does not time-out because of perceived innactivity.
