Jan 04 1999 - The name for the ACCC's upcoming email-only service machine will be mailserv.cc.uic.edu, not email.uic.edu as stated in the newsletter article IMAP and the New Eudora
This error is only in the printed version of the newsletter; the online version of the article has been corrected.
Jan 04 1999 - You don't have to log in to tigger or icarus anymore to publish your homepage URL or to change your uic.edu forwarding address; you can do it on the Web, at the ACCC Directory Update Web page.
The first response from the page is the UIC ness Bluestem login pages. After you log in with your netid and ACCC password, the phupdate page will display most of the information about you that's in the UIC online ph directory and in the hardcopy faculty/staff directory, with additional information about your ACCC accounts, email forwarding, and other miscellaneous data.
Use this page to check whether the data we have about you is correct or change selected items, such as your email forwarding address. (Just type the correct information in the fields provided and click Submit.)
While the database will be updated immediately, a change in your mail forwarding address will not be effective until the next day. Make sure that any data you enter is valid, particularly your email address. Your email won't be delivered if it isn't.

- REELlibrarian is client/server software package that allows people to use
a tape drive that is physically connected to a remote machine as if it
were actually connected to the machine that they are using. A REELlibrarian
client has been installed on the new borg. (Not UICVM or icarus.)
REELlibrarian supports three types of digital computer tapes cartridges,
4mm DAT, 8mm XBYTE, and IBM 3480; and the following types of tape
formats/labeling: ANSI (default) and ANSI2 (ANSI without HDR2 labels),
IBM (used when sharing tapes with MVS systems) and IBM2
(IBM without HDR2 labels), TAR and CPIO (generic formats usable by
most utilities), RAW (for storing raw partitions).
For more information, see the UIC REELlibrarian Web page. Jan 04 1999
- In preparation for the removal of CMS during 1999, we have restricted VM:Archiver
on CMS from accepting new files Your existing CMS archives are
still available in the usual way for now,
using the vmarch recall command.
We are investigating various options for dealing the the existing CMS archives
in the long run, but we feel there is no sense in expanding the problem
by adding new files to the archives. In any case, please do not attempt
to recall all your archived files at once. We already know from experience
that that causes major problems.
If you try to archive a file on CMS, for example, the file getdisk index
a, you will receive the following messages:
REELlibrarian: Tape Support for UNIX
VM Archive Now Recall Only
vmarch archive file getdisk index a
12:19:11 * MSG FROM VMARCH : SORRY --
ONLY FILE RECALLS ALLOWED AS
OF 1999-01-04.
VMACMD0102E Command user exit rejected your authority to issue
command.
Ready(00024); T=0.05/0.08 12:19:11
If you have SET MSG OFF, you will get only the second message.
If you try archiving files using the menu mode of the vmarch
command, the messages will appear in reverse order, on separate screens
