Installing PCTCP for Windows 3.x

Use this only for Windows 3.1 machines on campus.

Pre-Installation Requirements

To run the Windows version of the ADN Network Services Kit software effectively, your machine must have at least a 386 CPU, VGA color graphics, a 3.5" high density (1.44 megabytes) disk drive, a hard drive and at least 4 megabytes of memory. Your machine must have an ADN-II connection and must be running Windows version 3.0 or later. The machine needs approximately 2 megabytes of free disk space for installation.

In order to install PC/TCP, you must provide the IP Address and Hostname of the machine where you are installing PC/TCP, and the Serial number and Authentication key for your copy of the PC/TCP package. You also need a network id (netid). Before installing PC/TCP, contact the Client Services Office (see below) if you need any of this information.

Installing PCTCP

In the Windows Program Manager,

  • Single-click "File" in the menu bar.
  • Select "RUN"

Put in the first disk in the drive you will use for installation: The A: drive is used in this example. If you purchased the Network Services Kit from the CSO, this disk is named: "Network Services Kit, PC/TCP, Disk 1 (Disk 1 of 4)". In the "RUN" box enter:

  • a:\tcpinst

When prompted for the drive from which you are installing PC/TCP, press enter.

Before continuing with the installation, please note that if you elect to install PC/TCP in a non-default directory in the next step, you will have to edit the PIF file to indicate the change.

When prompted for the drive and directory for installation, press ENTER to accept the supplied default or enter a different drive and directory if desired.

When prompted with the message, "If you have Windows already installed and would like PC/TCP support installed for Windows, enter y for yes.

When prompted for the drive and directory where you installed Windows:

  • Press ENTER to accept the supplied default or enter a different drive and directory if necessary.

When the program files on the first PC/TCP disk have been copied to the drive and directory you designated for installation, remove the first PC/TCP disk, and place the second PC/TCP disk in the drive you are using for installation. If you purchased the Network Services Kit from the CSO, the second PC/TCP disk is named: "Network Services Kit, PC/TCP, Disk 2 (Disk 2 of 4)". Continue to enter the disks as the programs prompts you.
