During an individual, confidential appointment, I will work with you to determine why you are not performing at the highest level. Next, I will make specific, practical suggestions to address your needs. The areas mostly commonly addressed during these sessions include: test-taking strategies, test anxiety reduction, study strategies, study routines, and time management.

If you are having difficulty with test-taking, I will analyze how you read sample test questions, using your own review books and/or books in my office. Next, suggestions will be made and question analysis will be modeled so that you can improve your performance. If you are having difficulty finishing your exams, I will look at how you might read through a question more quickly without sacrificing accuracy.

If you have test anxiety, we will briefly discuss the reasons behind your shaken confidence and your anxiety. I will teach you strategies for controlling your anxiety level, largely through controlled breathing and “reframing.”

If your academic difficulties stem from inadequate preparation for exams, I will work with you to devise more efficient and effective study strategies. I will also suggest concrete ways to modify the circumstances of your daily living so that you will not have to rely upon self-discipline alone in order to improve your time management.
