Confidential Information
You can publish confidential documents on the web mainly in two ways:
- Protect them with bluestem
- only allow specific people, or everyone at UIC, or by IP-address
- but anyone with a tigger-account can get to them via telnet
- Publish them as Acrobat PDF files with password-protection on open
- only users that you told the password can view these
- high level of encryption
- but don't forget your password!
- better keep an unprotected copy on private machine
Forms
For automatic submission and processing of user-input, Acrobat forms can be linked to CGI-scripts running on a webserver. At UIC, custom CGI-scripts are now possible. For help with the creation of PDF forms, you are invited to make an appointment at the Instructional Technology Lab. Forms can be created in Acrobat Exchange from scanned paper forms, or print newly designed forms to PDF from any application.
Art and Design
Most page layout applications and better graphics programs support the creation of PDF files natively. The Acrobat format is commonly used to submit drafts for reviewing, for which Acrobat annotations provide an ideal means. Color management is now fully supported in PDF, and with Distiller's press-optimized job option, even your final output to the printer can be done with Acrobat, relieving you from all worries about missing fonts, images, or Pantone colors.
