AutoFormat

Although you can make many style changes yourself in Word, some are made automatically. Word uses AutoFormat to make changes to your document, including paragraph spacing, numbered and bulleted lists, and lines.

As an example, if you type three hyphens (---) in a row on the same line, Word automatically converts it to a horizontal line.

Another example involves numbered lists. The computer will automatically format paragraphs that start with a number. Additionally, each hit of the [ENTER] key will automatically place the next number in. If you hit [ENTER] twice in a row, the automatic numbering turns off.

Click here to see a video demo of some of the above items. (141K) You can also do other formats by choosing AutoFormat from the Format menu. AutoFormat will create paragraph heading styles, increase the spacing between paragraphs to eliminate the blank lines, and it will format the title of the document.

It should be noted that the user has the option to accept all changes made by AutoFormat or to review each change one-by-one.
