We can also create styles of our own. There are two methods for creating styles: use the Style dialog box under the Format menu, or take a piece of text, make the necessary formatting changes, and save those changes as a style. This is the Style dialog box under the Format menu.
When we click on the New... button, we get a dialog box similar to this.
We name the new style and make it a paragraph style or a character style. The Format button at the bottom of the screen allows us to change fonts, paragraph formats, and tabs. (Note: this is the same procedure that would be used to modify an existing style.)
The second method involves making changes to the existing text. For this example, let's make the titles centered, bold, Arial font, and 18 point.
We can then click on the Style button and type in a new name. We will give this the name "Title Format." (You can also hit [CTRL] + [SHIFT] + [S].)

When we hit [ENTER], the new style is created. |
| We will create a second style for the paragraph headings. It will be called "Paragraph Heading," and it will be Arial font, 14 point, bold, underline, and blue color. | ![]() |
| We can select the other headings, and change their styles to Paragraph Heading. Click here to see a video demo of creating a style. (289K) | ![]() |
