Reading Email with Pine: Configuring pine

Pine can be configured very easily. The configuration is under setup from the main menu. The three important things to be noted here are: Changing your password, editing your Signature file, changing the configuration of pine.

From the Main Menu, select Setup and hit Enter. Note the commands available via setup are listed in the keyboards commands area. The commands available are:
Printer: Allows you to change the default printer or specify an alternate command for printing.
Config: Allows you to change the configuration of pine.
Signature: Edit your signature file. This is a file that gets appended automatically to the end of each email you send out.
Newpassword: Allows you to change your UNIX password
Update: Get updates on the status of pine (not commonly used)

Select Newpassword from Setup by hitting N. You will get a screen like below. Enter your old password and hit enter. You will be prompted for the new password twice to reconfirm. Once this is done, you will have to use this new password to login the next time.

Select Signature from Setup by hitting S. You will get a screen like below. Simply type in what you would like to appear in your signature. This is appended to the end of every email you send out. Please note that it is generally accepted to keep the signature less than 5 lines. Also, the first line of your signature should be two dashes and a space.

Select Setup and hit C for Config. You will get screens which look like below. All of these options have extensive context-sensitive help. For help with any of these options, hit ?.

The different configurations possible are far too numerous to list here. Please refer to the Pine Information Center for details or check out the online help.
