Reading Email with Pine: Replying and forwarding

A message can be replied to by hitting R while reading a message. In this case, mail is sent to the person who sent you the message (ergo replying). The address of the person is automatically filled in. You also have the option including the original message in your reply. You can then type in a reply and send it.

A message can be forwarded (sent to a person other than the sender) by hitting F while reading a message. The message is automatically included in the forwarded message. You will have to fill in the email address of the new recipient.

Say, we would like to reply to the following email. As you see, this was sent by David Torres via a Listserv Academy.

To reply to the message, hit R.
The return address of David Torres is automatically filled into the To. field. When prompted to include the original message in the reply, It was chosen to have the original message included.. The original message, as you see, is included in the Message Area with leading '>" symbols. The reply can be typed in the Message Area above the original note.

To Forward a message, hit F.
The To: field is empty. The address of the new recipient has to be filled in and the message sent. You are not given the choice to include original message since the objective is to forward the original message to another person.

Note: When replying or forwarding a message, you can add additional comments in the message area. To send this, simply hit Control-X. You can also hit Control-C if do not wish to send the message.
