Organizational Charts

Organizational charts are a great way to relate certain topics together. They can be used for a company's chain-of-command, the thought processes of a project, or even a family tree. Like charts and tables, there is a special AutoLayout for organizational charts.

Like charts and tables, you enter a special Office program designed to help you create your organizational chart.

To enter information, begin typing the necessary information, hitting [ENTER] to get to the next line. Any line in a box surrounded by <> will not be printed. If you only wanted to type a name (no title), you MUST delete the words "Type Title Here." For this example, each person will have a title.

When you are done with a box, hit [ESC]. This will allow you to go to the next box by using the arrow keys on the keyboard. Here are the subordinates for Ed Garay.

There is one more person that needs to go in. This person can be entered as a subordinate to Ed Garay or as a co-worker to one of the other three. To put the person in as a subordinate, click on the Subordinate button on the toolbar, then click on the top box.

Boxes can be selected by clicking on them. The color of the boxes, text styles, borders, and organization style can be formatted by clicking on the respective areas of the Menu bar. In the following example, we selected all boxes using the Edit menu, changed the box color to magenta, text color to violet, and changed the style.

When you close the organizational chart, the program will prompt you to save and return you to PowerPoint.
