AutoLayouts

In many of the AutoLayouts available in PowerPoint, you have the ability to enter text. Each slide contains PLACEHOLDERS that allow you to enter text in that location when you click on them. Here is an example of the placeholders in the Title Page AutoLayout.

When you click, the text showing disappears, and you can type in any text you like. If you wish to switch from the Title placeholder to the Subtitle placeholder, you can either click on the Subtitle placeholder or hit [CTRL] + [ENTER] on your keyboard. Once you are done, it is recommended that you click outside of the slide area. This will deselect any objects inside the slide, preventing you from accidentally deleting them.

If you discover that a different AutoLayout may be more effective, you can make the change by clicking on the "Slide Layout" button on the Common Tasks toolbar. Here is a sample of the Bulleted List AutoLayout.
