Accessing the Internet from home

In addition to the public computer labs, students, faculty and staff can access UIC services from home.

To gain access, they can dial into the ACCC Dial-in Servers' telephone lines to connect to UIC and the Internet, or they can use their own Internet Service Provider (ISP), such as America Online.

In a nutshell, the following is needed to access the Internet from home:

  • A computer (the newer and faster, the better)
  • A modem (28.8 Kbps or faster)
  • The Network Services Kit configured for dial-up (aka PPP) modem connection
  • A telephone call to one of the ACCC Dial-in Servers numbers or to a commercial Internet Service Provider
