Inserting Links

Links can be added to an HTML document either by clicking on the Insert pull down menu and selecting Link to URL (or Link to File), or by clicking the appropriate button on the Basic toolbar.
 Inserting a link
Clicking the Link Editor button in the Basic toolbar will evoke the Link Editor window.  The following floating palette will appear:

Select the text that is to be the clickable link (for example, 'click here for more info'). In the Link Editor, next to where it says "URL:", type the URL that you would like the link to lead to. If you would like the link to lead to another Web page in the same directory (or in another sub-directory of one main directory), click the Browse Files button. An Open dialogue box will appear and you will be able to select the file you wish to set the link to.
Clicking the Link to File button on the Basic toolbar will achieve the same effect as clicking the Browse Files button on the Link Editor window

 Link Editor options

  • Show Examples

Clicking the Show Examples button in the Link Editor window causes the bottom of the window to expand to show examples of commonly used URL formats. Besides the two normal link formats (linking to a web page and linking to another html file), the list includes example of an anchor, an anchor in the same file, FTP link and a mail link.
Clicking the Anchor button on the Basic toolbar is another way to set an anchor in an HTML document. An anchor is like a marker which identifies a specific location on the page. A link can then be set to lead to a particular spot on another HTML page, instead of starting at the top which is the default.

To add an anchor, place the cursor next to the specific word or title that you want to link to on the page and click the Anchor button. You will be prompted to type in a name, which will be how you refer to that spot on the page. An anchor icon will then appear next to the text that is marked.

  • Link List

As links are added to a Web page, Claris Homepage keeps track of the URLs that are used. Clicking on the pull down menu at the right of the Link Editor brings up a handy list of URLs that have been typed in. This allows you to select particular URL that you have used frequently, or keep track of several URLs that may comprise your entire web site with all of it's references. Dragging the mouse pointer down to the entry that you want and letting up on the mouse button places what you selected into the URL box in the Link Editor window.
