Inserting Links |
||||||||
|
|
||||||||
| Links can be inserted into an HTML document either by clicking on the Insert pull down menu and selecting Link, or by clicking the Link button on the Composition toolbar. |
| Select the text that you want to be the active link by clicking and dragging the mouse over it. |
| Clicking the Link button in the Composition toolbar will open the Link Properties window. At the top of the Link tab, in the "Link to" section, the location or file that you want to link to can be set by typing in the path and name (e.g. http://www.uic.edu). Clicking the Choose File button in the Link to section will allow you to link to a relative file on your hard drive. |
| To add new link text to the page (instead of selecting text before hand) type what will be the active link the the box under where it says "Link source". This will have the same effect as typing the text on the page, selecting it and clicking the Link button. |
A Target is a marked place on a Web page that can be linked to in the same
manner that another page is linked to. When a link to a target is clicked on, the
browser "jumps" up or down to the spot that is marked. Every target should
have a unique name, and functions best when placed next to a text or image object.
If the Show targets in option in the Link Properties window is set
to "Current document", any targets that have already been placed on the
page will appear in the target list box.

TIP: Links to files or Netscape bookmarks can be created by
dragging the file icon from it's directory to the Netscape Editor window. The link
can be further modified by selecting the link text and clicking the Link button.
