The Desktop

Your Windows 95 screen will look similar to the following:

The teal area of the screen is referred to as the DESKTOP. (You can change the color of your desktop, which will be explained later.) The desktop can house whatever programs you see fit to place on it. Each program, file, or folder is represented by an ICON, which will describe the name and give a picture representation of the program. Although the types of icons on the desktop can vary from computer to computer, every computer will have these three icons:

The My Computer icon gives you information about your computer, including drives, printers, and the Control Panel.

The Network Neighborhood icon gives you information about other computers in your network

The Recycle Bin icon gives you the ability to delete files or to bring them back if you change your mind.

These icons can be placed anywhere on the desktop in any order you desire. However, if you wish to get your desktop icons organized, you can right-click on an open area of the desktop (not at any icon) and choose one of the options under Arrange Icons in the shortcut menu that pops up.
