Parts of the Window

The structure of windows in Windows 95 has been improved to make working inside of them more efficient. Every window now has a Menu Bar and Toolbar that give you the ability to change the view of the window, get information about the files inside the window, or to make any changes you want. The menu bar and toolbar in a window look similar to the following:

If the toolbar is not displayed, you can bring it up by going to the View|Toolbar menu. The toolbar has the ability to move, copy, and delete files. You can also create new folders, change the window that is active, and display the properties of a particular file. There are also buttons at the very end of the toolbar that change the type of icons that you see. The last four buttons will display, respectively, large icons, small icons, a list of icons, or detailed information about each file inside of the window.

In Windows 3.1, you had the ability to move, resize, and control windows by clicking in certain locations on the window. These procedures are largely the same for Windows 95.

In the upper-right corner of each window, there are three buttons. These allow you to minimize, maximize, and close a window. The minimize button will take an open window and reduce it to a button on the taskbar. (click the button on the taskbar to restore the window) The maximize button will expand the window so that it fills the entire screen. When a screen is maximized, the maximize button is replaced by the restore button , which will resize the window back to its previous size. Finally, the close button will close the window.
