The Taskbar

At the bottom of the desktop is the TASKBAR. This is an important feature of Windows 95. The taskbar will display a button for every window that is currently open. It also contains the Start button, which is a menu of items that can get you to any program in your computer. By default, the taskbar is displayed at the bottom of the screen. However, you can click-and-drag it so that it displays on any side of your screen. You can also adjust the size of it by clicking-and-dragging on the border of the taskbar.

Also on the taskbar, a clock is displayed. This will give you the time of day, and it will also tell you the date if the pointer hovers over it. If you wish to change the clock, you can right-click the clock and choose Adjust Date/Time from the shortcut menu

If you wish to make any changes to the taskbar, you can right-click on an open area of the taskbar (not pointing at the clock, the Start button, or any window button) and choosing Properties from the shortcut menu. (You can also access the taskbar properties by going to the Start|Settings|Taskbar menu.)

You have the options of always displaying the taskbar on top, auto-hiding the taskbar so it disappears when not in use, altering the size of the icons displayed in the Start menu, or turning off the clock.
