If you need to get rid of unnecessary files, it is a good idea to move those files into the Recycle Bin. The Recycle Bin is a temporary holding area for files that are to be deleted. It gives you the ability to retrieve files if you decide to keep them. You can also empty the Recycle Bin, thus permanently deleting those files.
To place files in the Recycle Bin, simply drag them there. You can also select a file and hit the [DELETE] button on your keyboard to accomplish the same thing. The Recycle Bin icon will show papers in the top of it to indicate files are inside of it.
If you wish to take something back out of the Recycle Bin, double-click on the Recycle Bin to open it up. If you select the item and choose the File|Restore menu, the computer will place the item back in its original location.
There are two methods for emptying the Recycle Bin. Firstly, you can choose the File|Empty Recycle Bin menu if you are in the window. An easier method is to right-click the Recycle Bin and choose to empty the recycle bin from the shortcut menu.

There is a shortcut to deleting files: if you hold down the [SHIFT] key while moving something to the Recycle Bin or holding [SHIFT] while hitting the [DELETE] key, the computer will delete the file directly, bypassing the Recycle Bin. Click here to see a video demo of this. (323K)
