Other Items in Windows 98

Disk Defragmenter - Although the purpose of Disk Defragmenter has not changed, Windows 98 makes reorganizing your hard drive easier by analyzing the items most used on your computer and placing those towards the front of the drive, making them easier to access.

Find - The Find command is now expanded. If you are hooked up to the Internet, you can actually find people by use of several searching capabilities. It also searches in the Address book that is available on your computer.

Universal Serial Bus (USB) - This is a new concept, introduced very recently with the updated versions of Windows 95 and Macintosh's Imac. These are new connectors that will eventually replace parallel and serial ports. They are now available in many new computers. The major advantages include: faster data transfer (up to 10 times faster), eliminates extra power cords as the USB ports supply the power, the ability to run up to 127 accessories on a single computer, and the ability to switch peripheral devices while the computer is on, commonly referred to as "hot-swapping."

Windows Update - Once you are registered with Microsoft, you can click on the Products Update Link, which will scan your computer and determines what software you could use. It's also set so no information leaves your computer to be intercepted by others.

FAT32 - File Allocation Utility has been improved immensely so you can save space on your hard drive. (up to 28%) It also eliminates the problem of Windows 95 not recognizing drives over 2GB, forcing you to partition. That number has been increased to 2TB, which is 2 terrabytes, or 2,000GB.
