Composition, Music Theory, Ear Training ![]() Pelarin Bacos III is originally from Pukalani, Hawaii on the island of Maui. He holds degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Music from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he studied composition with John Harbison. Pelarin is currently a PhD candidate in music composition at The University of Chicago where he has studied with Shulamit Ran and John Eaton. Pelarin has received fellowships from The Aspen School Music and Festival, The Wellesley Composers Conference, and The Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. His music has been performed by eighth blackbird, the Pacifica Quartet, the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, Contempo (formerly The Chicago Contemporary Players) and Bill Kalinkos, clarinetist of Alarm Will Sound. Pelarin has also helped to edit and revise the fourth edition of The Harvard Dictionary of Music (2003) under Don Michael Randel. In addition to teaching at UIC, he frequently appears as an accompanist and is currently the pianist of the Chicago Miniaturist Ensemble. |
