Assistant Clinical Professor (Movement) ![]() Sharon Göpfert is a performer/director/collaborator/educator in Chicago and Brazil. She currently is a Clinical Assistant Lecturer and teaches Movement for the Stage at University of Illinois at Chicago; Sharon is the founder of the Alma Boa Project, an international arts exchange organization with the mission to provide arts education and nutrition to youth in Igarassu, Brazil. Since 1998 she has created/performed Doorslam, Refuge, Come Like Shadows, Headpoison, And So I May Return, and The Palmer Raids with Plasticene under the direction of Dexter Bullard. In 2003 The Palmer Raids performed in New York City (Ohio Theatre) and in 2005 Refuge played at the PACedge festival after a successful run at Wesleyan University . Sharon also appeared with TrapDoor Theatre in The Killing Game (directed by Sheldon Patinkin), Tatoo, and Lebensaum (Jeff Citation Supporting Actress and Ensemble). She has toured to Germany, Scotland , and Brazil with The Curious Theatre, Theatre 108, and Les Metissages. With Redmoon she performed The Hunchback at the Steppenwolf Theatre and at New York ’s International Puppet Festival at the Public. She has directed and choreographed for DePaul University (Rapture #7), Plasticene (The Perimeter), and Chicago Opera Theatre (Brundibar). Sharon has worked for various arts programs in the Chicago Public Schools (Public Guardian, DanceArt, CAPE, Theatre for Young Audiences, and Urban Gateways). Her film credits include Casting About, Hole in the Wall, Bullet on a Wire, Our Father, When Sara Looks Up and Bob Harvey. Sharon practices and teaches Capoeira under the tutelage of Marisa Cordeiro (www.gingartecapoeira.org), and Ricardo Vieiro do Nascimento (www.canoagrande.org) and is currently enrolled in a Feldenkrais Accreditation program. |
