University
of

Ruth Rosenberg is interested in historical approaches to ethnomusicology, women's song traditions, and discourses of folksong in
France
during the nineteenth century. Her dissertation is a historical and ethnographic study of a genre of funeral lament performed by women on the Mediterranean
island
of
Corsica
. The project considers this tradition and its practitioners as they were perceived by French travelers and folkorists during the 1800s, as well as in the contemporary context.
Rosenberg
has presented her work at the annual meetings of the Society for Ethnomusicology, the American Anthropological Association, and the American Musicological Society. She is published in the journals Current Musicology and Popular Music and Society. She has taught classes in world music, music history, music and gender, and critical writing.
