The UIC Singers and Alumni Perform
Mozart's Requiem in d minor, k. 626, at Carnegie Hall

"A full house, standing ovation, superb musicianship!" That's how conductor Michael Anderson described the performance, which took place at New York's prestigious Carnegie Hall on February 18, 2008. The singers, who came from across the country, joined The UIC Singers in a thrilling performance, featuring Kristen Plumley, soprano, Heidi Skok, mezzo-soprano, William Ferguson, tenor, and Jason Hardy, bass, joined by the New England Symphonic Ensemble.

Prior to the event, the University of Illinois Alumni Association invited University of Illinois Alumni to a pre-concert networking reception that included an opportunity to meet Dr. Anderson and Arlene Norsym, UICAA Vice-President and UIC Associate Chancellor. It was held in the Shorin Club Room and proved to be a fulfilling prelude to the evening's performance. Vice-President Norsym was the consummate host!
Michael J. Anderson
Michael J. Anderson, chairman of UIC Department of Performing Arts and director of Choral and Vocal Studies is known internationally for his devotion to choral music. He is also Vice-President of the International Federation for Choral Music, serves on the Board of the International Center for Choral Music in Namur, Belgium, and is U.S. representative to the Choir Olympic Council. A prolific author and editor, Anderson has conducted, lectured and adjudicated choirs across the United States and in Sweden, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Korea, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.
To encourage college-bound students to continue their interest in music, Anderson founded the UIC Choral Music Educational Opportunities Program, and to further choral music education, he co-founded the Choral Resource Center at UIC in 2004. Anderson’s belief that music can help advance world peace is embodied in the opportunities he offers to UIC students and alumni, some of whom will be singing with him at Carnegie Hall.
