Certificate Program in Museum Studies

The Art History Department offers courses in Museum Studies designed to provide an in-depth introduction to the professions affiliated with museum and visual arts exhibition programs, including gallery and not-for-profit arts administration work. These include AH480, The History of Museums and Collecting; AH481, Museum Practices; and a number of seminars offered by department faculty and affiliated faculty members, who include Lisa Yun Lee, Director of the Jane Addams Hull House Museum, and Lorelei Stewart, Director of Gallery 400. Graduate students may receive a Certificate in Museum Studies to accompany their MA or Ph.D. in Art History by completing the sequence of courses—AH 480, AH481, and the Internship, AH 482. There is currently no certificate program for undergraduates.
