BioE 2008 PhD Qualifying Exam (Update 2/20/08)

1. The exam will be held on June 2, 2008. Classroom: SES 130.
2. Student must sign up for the exam personally in SEO 218.
3. Only nonprogrammable calculators are allowed.
4. Student is only allowed two attempts to pass the qualifying exam.
5. GPA must be at least 3.0/4.0, no exceptions.
6. Each student MUST obtain a letter of commitment and/or support from a potential PI and have the original letter submitted to
Ria (mgoluch at uic.edu) before May 15, 2008.

Format of Qualifying Exam
1. Three problems in Instrumentation (BioE 430), Modeling (BioE 439, 440), and Materials (BioE 460), and one problem in his/her chosen track of concentration.
2. Bioinformatics students (only): the Ph.D candidate will have to answer 5 out of 8 problems.
