Recent Abstracts from the Diagnostic Imaging System Group

"Investigation of NMR Signal-to-Noise for RF Scroll Microcoils." Proceedings of Ist Annual International IEEE-EMBS Special Topics Conference on Microtechnologies in Medicine & Biology, October 2000

Barjor Gimi, Sertac Eroglu, Lara Leoni, Tejal Desai, Brian Roman, Richard L. Magin, "Assessing Activation of Pancreatic B Cells Using MRI." Experimental Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Conference, Asilomar, California, (in review).

Barjor Gimi, Lara Leoni, Tejal Desai, Ricjard L. Magin, Brian Roman, "Imaging of Pancreatic Beta Cell Function by Mn2+-Enhanced MRI." International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine, Tenth Scientific Meeting, Honolulu, Hawaii (in review).

Sertac Eroglu, Barjor Gimi, Lara Leoni, Brian Roman, Tejal Desai, Richard L. Magin,"NMR Imaging of Microcapsules for Monitoring the Performance of Cell and Tissue Implants." 2nd Annual International IEEE EMBS Special Topic Conference on Microtechnologies in Medicine and Biology (in review).

"Orientation-related Field Distortions for RF Spiral Surface Coils," authored by S.Eroglu, S.C.Grant, R.L Magin and G.Friedman, examines the origins of magnetic field distortions resulting from sample orientation for planar spiral coils. Focusing on resolution concerns, this poster will be presented by Sertac Eroglu in the Hardware category.

"Multiple Component Water Diffusion in Single Neurons," authored by S.C. Grant, D.L. Buckley, S. Gibbs, A.G. Webb, T.H. Mareci and S.J. Blackband, presents new data concerning compartmentalized, multi-exponential diffusion in the L7 neuron of Californica aplysia. Displaying localized diffusion data of the nuclear and cytoplasmic compartments, this research was selected as both a poster and short talk that will be presented by Sam Grant in the in vivo Imaging Section.

The 8th Scientific Meeting and Exhibition of the International Society of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine also has accepted a paper entitled "Multiple component water diffusion observed in isolated single neurons." Authored by S.C. Grant, D.L. Buckley, S. Gibbs, A.G. Webb, T.H. Mareci and S.J. Blackband, this poster has been selected as a featured stop on one of the meeting's designated walking tours.
