Wednesday Student Coordinator
Hello There! I am Cong Nguyen and I have been involved with BCQ since my very first semester at UIC. I got involved as a freshman because BCQ looked like a good opportunity for a lost soul to find his way into a career path and it helped lead to my decision to pursue Pharmacy. I love hanging out with friends and enjoy relaxing, fun times to counter the daily grind of coursework.

Christine Bagtas
Hey I'm Christine! I'm a Biological Sciences Major with a concentration in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. I'm a senior, but I still plan on being here at UIC for an extra year! I originally transferred from Rock Valley College in Rockford, IL so we all know how messy transferring can be. I have always had an interest in biology, but I have especially been interested in animal science. I am hoping to go to Veterinary school within the next two years! I have loved taking BCQ! I love all the fieldtrips and all the speakers, and especially all the great people you get to meet! It was easily my favorite class of the year!

Lincoln Chang
Hey, my name is Lincoln Chang and I am currently a Junior, majoring in Biological Sciences. I believe I am an easy going person so don’t be shy. On my free time, if possible I like to stay active with sports but I also enjoy the days where I just play video games/watch movies. I hope I can make BCQ as an enjoyable experience for you as it was for me.

Dara Chanthavong
Hi! My name is Dara Chanthavong. I’m a senior and majoring in Biological Sciences with a minor in Chemistry. BCQ has opened my mind to other interests and careers in biology. The class was a fun experience. What I hope to become is a physician and with the dedication and motivation – I know I can get there. I’m the third child in the family – having 2 older sisters and 1 younger. I come from a southwest suburban town about 30 minutes from here. I enjoy shopping, watching drama and action movies, and spending time with family and friends. Once you get to know me – I’m spontaneous, have a sense of humor, lovable, generous, and approachable. In a couple of years, I would love to move to California and possible settle and start a family there. Enjoy every moment of your undergrad years! Time flies and once you know, it’s already graduation time.
Maricel Sanchez
My name is Maricel Sanchez and I am a senior. I am majoring in Biology and still on the path to figuring out what to do after I graduate. I planned on attending pharmacy school but recently I’ve been interested in pursuing other careers. I’m involved in clubs such as Minority Association of Pre-Health Students and Filipinos in Alliance. Through these clubs and BCQ, I have met a lot of great people and experiences things I never thought possible. I will never forget these experiences and will take them with me long after graduation (as corny as it sounds), and I hope that my students will do the same.

Ada Janowicz
Hi, my name is Ada. I am a Biology major and I am still in search of what I want to pursue with my degree, but most likely it will involve health. I taught English in 2005 in Poland for a month and I also volunteered at a cancer camp this summer. Coming from a Catholic school, I tend to volunteer a lot. The thing that many people do remember about me is that I am Polish and yes, I do speak it. Even though I am very tall, I do not play basketball or volleyball, aside from my grade school days.
Amanda Sandoval
I am a fourth year biology major preparing to graduate in the Fall of 2010. I hope to continue my studies, and go to medical school. I am a volunteer at Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn where I work in the guest services department. I provide training for the new volunteers who are going to be working the visitor desk. I enjoy assisting the public as well as my co-workers, and ensure that my job is performed to the best of my abilities. I work well in a group environment, but I am also very efficient while working by myself. I am a dedicated individual who strives to succeed in everything I put my mind to.

Tegan Knudtson
Hey! Welcome to Biology Colloquium! My name is Tegan. I took BCQ my freshman year and I LOVE IT! I became a Student Leader last semester. I am a student leader along with being an Resident Assistant on the East Side of Campus. I am Senior at UIC and planning on going to Dental Hygiene school in the Fall. If you name it I have probably done it or tried it at UIC. I played on UIC's club Rugby Team then joined the UIC Swim and Dive Team as a diver then a swimmer. Last year I did my first Triathlon and plan on doing more once I get a bike. I love to travel and have been to 38 states so far. Chicago is my city and I visit new places all the time. My favorite places are Lalos, Sushi Para II and Little Joes on Taylor haha. I wish you a great semester and have FUN with BCQ!!!!
Duyen Tran
Hi my name is Duyen Tran. It is nice to meet all of you! I am a Junior planning to major in Biochemistry. I love hiking, camping, and enjoying the outdoors. I am in love with science and especially nature and mountains. I am not sure what I want to become in the near future, but with the help BCQ provides, I am sure I will one day find something I would love to study and enjoy learning. I started off as a lonely freshmen drifting away from my social life, but after I took BCQ for 2 semesters, I made new friends and I looked forward to learn new things and experience things I have never done before. I never new BCQ existed until the class was offered during my Biology lecture. After I knew about this class, I immediately signed up for it. I wasn’t sure if I made the right decision. But guess what? I never regret taking this class because I enjoyed it so much that I looked forward to walk through the BCQ door every week! I am sure everyone else can find their interest with the help from BCQ.

Kinjal Patel
Hey, what’s up? I’m Kinjal Patel. I’m a Junior Biological Sciences Major. I plan on going to Dental School, hopefully here at UIC. I love sports, especially basketball and football. I enjoy listening to music. I like to be active everyday, usually by playing basketball at the rec center. There is never a down time when you are with me. It is always entertaining.
Lisa Weatherall
My name is Lisa Weatherall and I am a 23 year old Biological Sciences Major, minoring in Chemistry. I was born in Yokosuka, Japan because both of my parents were in the Navy. I have an 18 month old son, an older sister, and a younger brother. I currently work with individuals who have physical and mental disabilities. Lastly, my ultimate career goal in life is to become a doctor and specialize in neurology.

Ravi Patel
Hey, I’m Ravi. I am a junior at UIC working on my bachelors in Biology. I am majoring in Biology and minoring in Psychology. Currently, I am working with a psychology professor on a research involving refugees. What we do as a team is help refugees with their traumatic experience and help them fit into the American society. In my free time, I would love to travel, swim and read inspirational books. I took BCQ in Fall 2009 and I found it to be really helpful because it allows you to explore different fields. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to do pharmacy or medicine, but BCQ allowed me to explore both of these areas to see where I would fit. Overall, BCQ is a really helpful class that would definitely open your mind into different fields.
Payal Patel
Hey, my name is Payal Patel and I am currently a Senior. I am majoring in Psychology, but I am apply to Nursing school this semester. I really hope I get in somewhere cause I really want to help people around the world. I was a BCQ leader last semester and I really enjoyed it. For fun I like to read books, doesn't matter which genre (anything that interests me). I also love to sing on my own....I have a terrible voice...so I only sing when alone. I am really glad that I am a BCQ leader again and I hope to make my field trips interesting for the students!! :)

Timothy Smith
My name is Tim Smith and I'm from Warrenville, IL. Throughout highschool, I was a gymnast. I am a junior now at UIC majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry. I have also been to COD and Eastern Illinois. I want to do population and behavioral studies on wolves after I graduate. I enjoy the outdoors and camping. When it comes to T.V., I usually watch things like Family Guy, Southpark, and recently have started watching Bones. If anyone is in need of help with schoolwork, I can help with math, and science. That's pretty much the jist of who I am and anyone can feel free to email me with any questions. tsmith48@uic.edu .
Independent Research Coordinator
Sarah Tien
Hi everyone~ I’m Sarah Tien and it’s my second semester of being a research coordinator at BCQ! I joined BCQ during my junior year and had a great time going on to awesome field trips such as UIC hospital’s neonatal ICU and the cadaver lab at UIC College of Medicine! I began being a research assistant on the west campus since sophomore year and thus learned the greatness of being in a research setting since then! I took this position because I want everyone to have the opportunity like I did. In my free time, I love meeting people from all over the world, hanging out with my friends, and playing some recreational sports for UIC International Club. Being a senior in the last semester, I’m through all the challenging science courses and am currently taking some language classes for fun. Just want to get the best and most out of my UIC experience! .
