| The University of Illinois at Chicago Biology Colloquium was founded in 1992 by Huân Ngô, a UIC Ph.D. student at the time. During the initial years of the Colloquium, an extremely large amount of organization was required to get the class up and running. In addition to seeking the approval of the department just to create BioS 196, the staff of the first BCQ years had to come up with the format and requirements of the class that are followed to the present. Since those pioneering years the Colloquium has evolved to what it is today, offering things like large and small group seminars, periodic field trips, independent research positions, study partners, tutoring, graduate program information, and numerous opportunities for social interaction. These archives not only show the numerous and diverse speakers that BCQ has been fortunate enough to hear from, they also document another important strength of the Colloquium - it's continuity. Many former students come back to serve as student leaders. Similarly, student leaders return to become field trip/research/student coodinators so that each semester the Colloquium sees a new set of faces as well as a set of familiar ones.
