Orientation


Graduate Student Orientation for new students in the Department of Biological Sciences takes place during the week before classes. The program will include both Department-specific and University-wide information.


The Departmental orientation activities typically include:

  • A mixer to allow new students to get acquainted with one another
  • A welcome address from the Director of Graduate Studies
  • A question-and-answer session with current members of the Biology Graduate Student Association (BGSA)
  • A brief tour of department facilities
  • Lunch with faculty and students in your program area (MCDB, E&E, and Neuro)
  • Information about laboratory rotations (MCDB and Neuro)
  • A poster session highlighting ongoing graduate research
  • Meeting and pizza lunch with current graduate students
  • Department and course-specific training for teaching assistants

More general activities will include:

  • Campus-wide training for teaching assistants
  • Campus-wide orientation for international students

A schedule with dates, times, and locations of orientation activities will be posted here before the week of orientation.
