Graduate Student Orientation for new students in the Department of Biological Sciences takes place during the week before classes. The program will include both Department-specific and University-wide information.
The Departmental orientation activities typically include:
A mixer to allow new students to get acquainted with one another
A welcome address from the Director of Graduate Studies
A question-and-answer session with current members of the Biology Graduate Student Association (BGSA)
A brief tour of department facilities
Lunch with faculty and students in your program area (MCDB, E&E, and Neuro)
Information about laboratory rotations (MCDB and Neuro)
A poster session highlighting ongoing graduate research
Meeting and pizza lunch with current graduate students
Department and course-specific training for teaching assistants
More general activities will include:
Campus-wide training for teaching assistants
Campus-wide orientation for international students
A schedule with dates, times, and locations of orientation activities will be posted here before the week of orientation.
