Mentor at UIC

Since the first mentor program launched in 1998 for support staff, the Chancellor's Committee on the Status of Women has expanded the initiative to include academic professionals and faculty interested in administration. The faculty and staff at UIC have taken personal interest in helping women develop and build relationships, share experiences and problem solving approaches, enhance focus on personal and professional development, advance as academicians in administration, facilitate an understanding of the university culture and values, and be a catalyst for positive and proactive change.

The Mentor Program has been rewarding for both mentors and mentees. Results from the first comprehensive mentor program survey conducted in 2000 showed that 99% of the mentors and mentees in the Academic Professional and Faculty Interested in Administration group rated the program as very good. And also, 87% of the support staff group rated their experience as very good. We will continue with yearly evaluations of the program.
