Minority Women Concerns

The Minority Women Concerns subcommittee addresses issues of particular concern to women of color. Its areas of focus include promoting and supporting research and evaluation intended to improve the status of women of color; helping to create a university climate that will help women of color to realize their educational and professional goals; and recommending changes in campus policy to assure the inclusion of women of color.

COMMITTEE ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • We are looking for additional members to be involved in the Minority Women's Concerns subcommittee.
  • Gift Giving on a Budget, Part III (December 2011) was well attended with the participants learning to crochet a simple scarf. This event also highlighted other projects that was presented during the previous Gift Giving on a Budget sessions.

Highlights from our recently completed CCSW Minority Women's Concerns Survey:

  • 51 respondents completed the survey
  • Less than half of respondents (45.1%) were aware that CCSW activities are approved for official use of employee time
  • Barriers to Participating - 44.4% said they were "Too busy."
  • Most Important Issues for Minority Women Employees- included career advancement, salary equity issues, lack of recognition for excellent performance and professional training opportunities.
