The Student Subcommittee works to improve the status of women at UIC with a primary objective to advise and make recommendations to the Chancellor regarding attitudes, policies, and procedures that affect women students.

This year we crafted a maternity leave policy for graduate students. Our research was presented to the Graduate College for a more coherent Leave of Absence Policy for graduate studentss. The revised Leave of Absence Policy has been approved by the Executive Committee of the Graduate College, and Associate Dean Amy Levant has indicated that the new policy will take effect in Summer 2005. The Graduate College will begin the process of informing the University community and updating its website.
