Black History Month (click here for the main BHM website)

Observed annually during the month of February, Black History Month celebrates the achievements and contributions of African Americans. What Dr. Carter G. Woodson, founder of the Association for the Study of African American Life began as a week long celebration in February 1926, has evolved into a month-long, nationwide recognition of the impact of African Americans on the social, economic and political structures of the United States.

The University of Illinois at Chicago’s Black History Month program, “Honoring Our Traditions, Celebrating Our Legacy” commemorates the cultural uniqueness of African Americans. This year, the committee is pleased to offer a breath of cultural, educational and historical programs. All the events are open to the general public and to the UIC community of students, faculty and, staff.
