CULTURAL FEST

Cultural Fest, an annual event coordinated by Campus Programs is a popular spring semester event for student organizations and the UIC community in general. The event features an Ethnic Food and Bake Sale and a Performance Night on the same week.

Ethnic Food and Bake Sale:
This is an opportunity for student organizations to celebrate the diversity in their organizations and on campus while earning some money. Student organizations sponsor tables and sell a wide variety of homemade food items. Tickets are sold (similar to the Taste of Chicago) in 25 cent increments and are used to buy food at each table.

There will be a mandatory meeting and food preparation training session for all organizations participating in the food and bake sale portion of Cultural Fest. Each organization must have at least one person in attendance that would be present during the food and bake sale. Please bear in mind that, if you do not have representation at the meeting, you will not be eligible to participate in the event.

A list of items to be sold must be handed in to Campus Programs in advance. These lists will be given to Dining Services and the Health and Safety office, so their questions and/or concerns can be addressed at the meeting.

Reservations will be on a first-come, first-served basis. You may register in our office. or download a form from the applications section of this site.

Performance Night:
Student organizations highlight their talents and their cultures by performing for 10-15 minutes of a two-hour show. 8 organizations are chosen to highlight their cultures. The event is free and open to everyone.

Organizations must submit a video or audio tape with their application, or schedule a time to audition. A committee of staff and students will select eight of the applicants to perform. Organizations may perform themselves, or bring in a community group that reflects traditions in their culture. Each selected organization will receive $100 as a token of appreciation for their participation in the Performance Night.
Visit our Calendar for event dates.

Planning Committee:
Now is the time to get involved on the Cultural Fest planning committee! Do you have ideas that would make the Cultural Fest even more successful? Would you like to help select the performances? Then join us for the planning committee meetings. All students, faculty and staff are invited to participate in the planning of Cultural Fest.
