Student Centers Lounge Use Policy

Student Centers lounge spaces are utilized heavily by UIC students for studying, socializing, eating and resting. The requests for use of the spaces by student groups and university departments for programs and events have increased over the years. The purpose of this policy is to provide an equitable and balanced use of the various lounge spaces located in the Student Centers.

  • The Student Centers’ lounge spaces, especially the Student Center East Ward Lounge, will only be designated for event use, during the day, on a pre-determined 2 days per week schedule (Monday thru Friday). Use of the lounge for day time events must be pre-approved by the Director of Student Centers.
  • Day time events in the lounges shall begin no earlier than 10:00am and must end by 4:00pm
  • Scheduled evening events in the lounges, Monday thru Friday, shall begin no earlier than 6:00pm and must end by 11:00pm. These event must also be pre-approved by the Director of Student Centers
  • Notices of the lounge(s) closing due to a special event must be posted in the lounge(s) the night before or no later than two hours prior to the closing of the space.
  • Once a lounge is closed due to an event or program, notices will be posted at the entrance of the lounge to inform students of alternate study/lounge locations
  • Use of the lounges during the weekends for purposes other than students’ studying shall be approved by the Office of Meetings and Conferences in consultation with the Director of Student Centers
  • Any exceptions to this Lounge Use Policy shall be at the discretion and/or approval of the Director of Student Centers
