SYMPOSIUM PROGRAM COMMITTEES

There are four committees that are involved in various organizational aspects of the International Eosinophil Symposium. The first is the Local Organizing Committee, based entirely in various Chicago institutions, that is deal with the logistics of venue selection/booking, meeting hotel selection, marketing and advertising, contract review, fundraising, abstract selection, e-mail and other correspondence, web-site development, selection of the International Advisory Board, on-site meeting logistics, audiovisual issues, menu selection, program design/editing/printing etc. The second is the Scientific Program Committee, which has much wider geographical distribution and broader scientific range of expertise and is involved in developing and advising on the program format, choice of sessions, choice of session chairs, and invited plenary speaker selection (this together with individual session chairs), and importantly review and selection of abstracts for oral presentations and poster sessions. This committee includes the members of the Organizing Committee, the International Advisory Committee and a number of the elected members of the Executive Committee of the International Eosinophil Society. The third committee is the International Advisory Committee, which along with the Organizing Committee, is participating directly in recruiting financial sponsors (fundraising) for the symposium in general and/or specific scientific sessions, review and selection of abstracts for oral presentations, and selection of the junior scientists (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows) from the list of oral presenters who will be awarded travel grants and waivers of the registration fee to attend the meeting pending sufficient sponsorship and support from the NIH and other sources. A number of the participants in these committees are also on the currently elected membership of the Executive Committee of the International Eosinophil Society or participating society members, providing for the direct participation of the society in all aspects of the conception, organization and conduct of this biennial meeting.
