RECREATION/TOURS

Free time has been scheduled each afternoon of the conference to allow for recreational and other activities. If you will be presenting at the meeting, please take care to avoid scheduling any recreational activities that might conflict with your presentation time.

There are many things to do in Snowmass and Aspen that are easily accessible and that require no special arrangements. Other activities are more difficult to organize on your own and, for this reason, we have enlisted the support of two local service providers to assist symposium attendees and guests. Arrangements and discounted prices are available through Aspen Sports for bike rentals, and Blazing Adventures for organized activities, including river rafting, bicycle and backcountry jeep tours, wilderness hikes, horseback and hot air balloon rides, and fly fishing. Additional information on services, rates, and contacts for each vendor are provided below:

One-way trips to Aspen are available without any bike drop off fees. Just hop on your bike and enjoy the 11 mile bike trail that goes mostly downhill to Aspen—a great way to get out and enjoy the sunny summer days in Colorado. All reservations can be made after your arrival in Snowmass. Be sure to identify yourself as a participant in the “International Eosinophil Symposium” to qualify for discounted rates.

Two separate schedules have been developed to meet the needs of symposium Participants:

Prices reflect a 15% discount on most trips. Advance reservations are recommended. Representatives will be available at the Conference Center during Wednesday's opening registration/reception activities to assist with on-site reservations. To pre-register, please use one of the forms provided below. If you have questions, please e-mail or call and ask for the Group Services Department.

Cancellation Policy: In order to receive a FULL refund, you must contact Blazing Adventures 48 hours before your scheduled trip. No shows will be charged the full fee.

ãA $4 per person Wilderness usage fee has been included in each trip price.

Schedule 1: Activities in this schedule include lunch and are designed to completed in the free time allotted within the symposium program.

Thursday, June 26

Backcountry Jeep Tours

ã“Elk Camp Wilderness” Snowmass Mountain: A backcountry jeep tour to the top of Elk Camp on Snowmass Mountain is a delightful way to “get-away from-it-all.” The Elk Camp area is privately maintained by the U.S. Forest Service and the Snowmass Ski Area; Blazing Trails Jeep Tours is the only licensed activity on the mountain. This tour offers a peaceful overlook of the Maroon Bells and visit to Willow Creek. It is not uncommon to see local wildlife on your journey.  Pick up at 12:30 PM and return by 4:00. Cost: $74.00 adult/$68.00 child 4-12.

ãWhat Should I Wear? Always dress in layers. Most trips will reach elevations in excess of 11,000 feet where it will be cooler. A sweatshirt or jacket is recommended even on warm days.

ãWhat Should I Bring? Sunglasses, sunscreen, camera, ample supply of film and a hat are recommended.

Wilderness Hikes

ãNovice or Intermediate Half Day : A great introduction to hiking. These trips focus on a close look at the natural environment while you enjoy scenic, secluded trails. Let us choose the “most picturesque” trail depending on time of the year and group size. Trail choices include: Difficult Creek, Snowmass Creek, Castle Creek, Rim Trail, Sunnyside on Red Mountain, or Rio Grande Trail. Round trip distance is 3-4 miles.  Pick up at 12:30 PM and return by 4:00.  Cost: $68.00 per person.

ãWhat Should I Wear?   Always dress in layers and wear good hiking or trail shoes.  If you have rain gear, please bring it.  The morning temperatures are always cooler at higher elevations, and mountain weather conditions are always subject to sudden changes. 

ãWhat Should I Bring?   Please bring your own pack and water bottle if you have one, a camera and ample film, sunglasses, sunscreen and visor/hat.

Horseback Rides

ãTwo Hour Trail Ride: We’ll show you Snowmass Mountain from the saddle. Two-hour trail rides include beautiful scenery and some great peaceful time in the mountains. Tour begins at 12:30.  We will transport you to Capitol Peak Outfitters, which is located at the base of Fanny Hill.  Good for beginners and intermediates.  Riders must be 7 years old. Riding double is not allowed.   Cost:  $82.00 per person, includes lunch and transfer. 

ãWhat Should I Wear?   You will be most comfortable in jeans or long pants, sturdy shoes or boots and a hat. 

ãWhat Should I Bring?  A camera and ample film, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Downhill Bicycle Tours

ã“Maroon Bells & Lake” Maroon Creek Valley: Our tour begins with a drive to the “most photographed peaks in North America.”  At Maroon Lake, your guide will lead you on a short nature “hike”, acquainting you with some of the local wildflowers and trees.  You will begin your effortless 12-mile downhill descent through Maroon Valley. Along the way, you are welcome to stop and enjoy the spectacular views, and to photograph one of the most picturesque wilderness areas in Colorado. The Maroon Bells road is closed to most vehicular traffic for the majority of the summer and affords a perfect opportunity to enjoy your downhill bike ride. Pick up at 1:00 PM return by 4:45. Cost: $77.00 adult/$72.00 child riders 10-12 or kids on “hook-on” bikes age 6-10; $35 kids under 45# in burley; Van riders:  $49.00.

ãWhat should I Wear? Comfortable clothes. On warm, sunny days we recommend shorts, T-shirt, and tennis shoes. On cool days we recommend a sweater or light jacket. We provide rain jackets on wet days. 

ãWhat should I bring? You won’t need much in personal gear, and we provide all of your equipment. Sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended. We provide a bike pack to carry cameras. 

River Rafting Adventures

ãWhat Should I Bring? We suggest the disposable, waterproof type cameras. Pictures will be taken from the shore and will be available for purchase.

Fly Fishing

ãFly Fishing for wild trout in the unspoiled waters of Western Colorado is an unforgettable experience. The Aspen/Snowmass area, with the Roaring Fork and Frying Pan Rivers at its back door, is the center of the finest wild trout fishing in this area. Both rivers are designated as Gold Medal Rivers by the Colorado Department of Wildlife.  Pick up at 12:30 PM and return by 4:30.  Cost: $164.00 per angler, with two anglers per guide, includes your equipment, flies, license, and gratuity. Single person charge is $299.00. We reserve the right to put three people per guide with an uneven number. 

ãWhat Should I Wear? Full waders and boots are provided. Dress in layers with a t-shirt, long or short pants to offer easy mobility.  A brimmed hat, and sunscreen, and polarized sunglasses are recommended.

ãIntermediate Three-Quarter Day: About 5 hours of moderate terrain for the experienced hiker.  These trails will allow you to reach heights that afford you great views of the surrounding mountain ranges. Trail choices include: American Lake, Sunnyside-Hunter Creek Loop or Snowmass Lake. Minimum age: 12.  Pick up at 12:30 with a return around 6:00.  Cost: $93.00 per person.

River Rafting Adventures

ã“Browns Canyon” Arkansas River: The Arkansas River trip begins near the town of Buena Vista. To get to the river “put in” we drive over beautiful 12,000-foot Independence Pass. Total river distance is from 12-15 miles; total trip time is approximately 8-9 hours, including transportation. This trip features some exceptionally beautiful scenery both on the river and during the ride to the river, and some of the best whitewater to be found anywhere in the state. Class III & IV rapids. A buffet lunch is served on the river. Departs at 8:00 a.m. Cost: $85/adult; $76/child (ages 10-12).

Downhill Bicycle Tours

ã“Ashcroft Ghost Town” Castle Creek Valley: This bicycle trip is great for those of you who enjoy history. Ashcroft was the first silver mining town in the valley, but became a ghost town after the demonetization of silver in 1893. There is ample time for picture taking and strolling through Ashcroft. Then we’ll cruise downhill on our bikes through the Castle Creek Valley. Along our 14-mile route, we are surrounded by 14,000-foot peaks. This is one of the most beautiful areas in the Rocky Mountains. A refreshing snack will be served en route. Pick up at 8:15 a.m. return around Noon. Cost: $59/adult; $53/child (riders ages 10-12 or kids on “hook-on” bikes ages 6-10); $35/kids under 45 lbs. in burley; van riders/$35 (this fee applies to those who want to go to the Ghost Town and Valley, but not ride a bike).

Once on top, we skirt along the crest of Gold Hill Ridge, affording fantastic views of the Continental Divide on one side, and the Montezuma Basin area on the other. Finally, we head back down past old mines and cabins dating back to Aspen’s earliest days. There is ample opportunity for picture taking and strolling. A refreshing snack is served along the way. Pick up at 8:30 a.m. and return at Noon. Cost: $59/adult; $53/child (ages 4-12); $17/under 3.

Allow yourself a great sense of accomplishment. Trail choices include: Buckskin, Lost Man Loop or Grizzly Lake. Includes lunch on the trail! Pick up at 8:00 a.m. Cost: $99/per person.

Hot Air Balloon Rides

ãThere are few pleasures as grand as a HOT AIR BALLOON RIDE . Drift slowly over the earth in an open basket as you view the Rockies from above. It’s romantic! It’s breathtaking! It’s a journey that you will never forget! The balloon rides commence at dawn and finish with the traditional Champagne toast. Please allow approximately 3 hours (1-1 ½ hours air time). Pick up at 6:00 a.m. Cost: $195/adult; $170/child (ages 6-12).

Fly Fishing

ãFly Fishing for wild trout in the unspoiled waters of Western Colorado is an unforgettable experience.
