Restaurants in Chicago
There are simply too many restaurants in Chicago, over 6000, in fact.
For a restaurant guide of the UIC area (Greektown and Little Italy), go
to the UIC Eats page. For an extensive
listing of Chicago restaurants, consult NewCity (a free magazine available at the
entrances of the Behavioral Sciences Building), or the links provided below.
While Greektown and Little Italy are located within minutes from the BSB, great
food can also be found at:
Chinatown
South of Downtown and easily accessible via the Red Line Train, Chinatown
is located at Cermak Road and Wentworth Avenue. It is home to about 50 restaurants
covering regional cuisines from Shanghai, Cantonese, to Hunan and Sichuan.
Many of the restaurants offer dim sum on Sunday mornings. Taiwanese cuisine
still needs some work, though. There are also many Chinese grocery stores,
novelty shops (including martial arts equipments), bakeries, salons, video
stores, and bookstores.
Downtown
It's walking distance from BSB to Downtown Chicago. Some of the all time
favorites include:
The Cheesecake Factory: A 10-page menu of everything you ever want plus
over 50 styles of cheesecakes.
Heaven On Seven: It's Marti Gras everyday at this hot and spicy joint.
The Rosebud on Rush: Italian food inside Gold Coast, Chicago's upscale bar/club
area.
Korea Town
Several Korean restaurants and grocery stores are concentrated in between
and around the 2700 and 3700 blocks of North Lawrence Avenue. The spicy
dishes are great for the cold Chicago winters. Try Bi Bim Bop (a spicy rice
dish with everything), Man Doo Guk (rice cake soup), and Chapchae (stir-fry
vermicelli noodles). Some restaurants even offer Karaoke at night, if you
like really old oldies.
