The Bridge Research Centder at the University of Illinois at Chicago is presently conducting basic and applied research in the following areas:

  1. Monitoring of global and local structural properties of a large span prestressed concrete bridge.
  2. Development and testing of a magnetoelastic method for NDT stress measurement in prestressing ferromagnetic cables and wires.
  3. Electrical and durability characterization of PVDF materials for advanced structural monitoring of displacement and strain.

In support of this research, two laboratories have been established, a Structural Dynamics and Monitoring Laboratory and a Sensor Technology Laboratory.  These laboratories are well-equipped and are currently supported by one Postdoctoral Associate, three Ph.D. students, and several other students.
