The Structural and Concrete Materials Laboratory is committed to conducting state-of-the-research on civil engineering structures and concrete materials. Research includes: design and testing of structural models and prototypes; development of experimental and analytical techniques for monitoring and rating existing highway bridges; design of optimum structural slab system for rehabilitation and new bridge construction; scale effects and surface characterization in fracture of cementitious materials; high-performance concrete (HPC) materials; application of advanced composite materials for rehabilitation of civil engineering structures (bridges and buildings); and inspection and evaluation of wood structures.

Full-Depth Precast Concrete Bridge Deck Reconstruction:

Experimental evaluation of full depth precast/precast prestressed concrete panels for rapid replacement of bridge decks; Illinois Transportation Research Center/Illinois Department of Transportation.

Wacker Drive Reconstruction:

Development of high performance concrete and full-scale prototype bridge testing for the reconstruction of Wacker Drive; Chicago Department of Transportation/Illinois Department of Transportation/Federal Highway Administration.

CFRP Composites:

Use of CFRP composite in rehabilitation of reinforced concrete beams, columns, and beam-column joints; U.S. Army Construction Engineers Research Laboratories (USACERL).
