Project Title: Evaluation of CFRP Composites in Rehabilitation of RC Structures

Sponsored by: United States Army Construction Engineering Research Laboratories

Research Objectives:

  • Development of strengthening technique for military dormitory-type buildings located in high seismic zones of the United States.
  • Investigate the effects of application of carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) sheets on the stiffness, structural performance, ductility, and mode of failure of the beam, column and beam-column joint.
  • Development of non-linear finite element model.

Accomplishments To Date:

  • A significant number of CFRP wrapped and un-wrapped beams, columns and beam-column joints were tested for cyclic loading.
  • Analysis on the experimental data.

On-going Work:

  • Fabrication, casting and testing of more beam, column and beam-column joints.
  • Specimens subjected to various environmental conditions.
  • Specimens subjected to fatigue loading.
  • Development of non-linear finite element model.
