Research Facilities

  • Smart Sensors & NDT laboratory at the Civil & Materials Engineering Department is a research and development facility dedicated to development of smart sensors for civil infrastructure applications. A major thrust of research in this laboratory corresponds to the development of integrated fiber optic sensory systems for detection of cracks and monitoring of strains and deformations in concrete elements retrofitted with FRP composites.
  • Microfabrication Applications Laboratory (MAL) is a facility for the fabrication of microelectronic, integrated optics, micro mechanical, and other micro machined device structures.
  • Structural Testing Laboratory is full scale structural and materials testing facility. There are currently three MTS closed loop hydraulic testing machines for testing various sizes of structural elements at the prototype or large scale levels. These systems are equipped with proper electronics in order to apply loads and displacements in displacement or Load control through the closed-loop feedback system.
