Teaching in Transportation Engineering and Planning depends on access to software systems and data used by professionals in urban travel and traffic modeling. In the travel forecasting area, the primary focus is the EMME/2 System. The solution of combined models of origin-destination, mode, route, and time period choice are supported by an EMME/2 macro, as well as Fortran and C language codes. Extensive household, travel, and network data for the Chicago region have been assembled and are utilized in course exercises. These models are solved on the departments Sun Microsystems ULTRA 10 housed in the Graduate Computing Laboratory. In the traffic engineering area, a variety of widely used software systems are presently available including Transyt 7F, Passer II and Highway Capacity Analysis. In addition, PTV System's VISSIM is also available. |
