Joshua Barbour, Visiting Assistant Professor
Organizational communication in health contexts, interprofessional communication, institutions and organizational communication. Joshua's most recent work is forthcoming in Management Communication Quarterly, and he has been published in Communication Theory and the Handbook of Health Communication. He received the 2006 W. Charles Redding Dissertation Award. His research centers on how macromorphic (e.g., institutional and other extra-organizational) factors influence organizational communication (e.g., communication in health care teams and provider-provider communication). His primary lines of research include (a) improving interprofessional communication, (b) understanding the influence of urgency and uncertainty in the organizational decision-making especially as relevant for biodefense, (c) and developing methods for evaluating emergency planning and policy especially when concrete criteria do not exist.
