The Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for the following 2 positions:
Visiting Assistant Professor of Communication
A successful candidate must-
- have a record of scholarly achievement
- show promise for teaching success (at the undergraduate and graduate levels)
- have interests in some area of department research strength.
Visitors teach five courses in the regular academic year, usually including two sections of the same course and one course open to graduate students on the topic of the visitor’s dissertation. Because the curriculum is comprehensive at the undergraduate level, the Department welcomes applicants in either human communication (especially interpersonal, intercultural, or rhetorical studies, ideally in combination with new technology) or mediated communication (particularly in the history of television, along with writing/interviewing for radio and/or internet).

Located in the heart of Chicago, UIC is a Research I University with 16,000 undergraduates, 6,500 graduate and 3,000 professional students. The Department of Communication has 12 full-time faculty, approximately 125 undergraduate majors, 25 M.A. students, and 6 Ph.D. students in a doctoral program focused on the relationship between technology and communication.
The visiting appointment is a one-year contract, and the regular academic year runs from August 16, 2008, through May 15, 2009. Teaching a summer course in 2009 is an option. In exceptional cases the Department has been able to offer another contract for a second year.
