    Keynote Speaker

    Susan Herring

    Susan Herring is a professor of Information Science and Linguistics at Indiana University, Bloomington, and editor of the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication. One of the first scholars to apply linguistic methods of analysis to communication on the Internet, she has analyzed gender styles, politeness, coherence, genre classification, multilingualism, and change over time in Internet language use. Her publications include Computer-Mediated Communication: Linguistic, Social and Cross-Cultural Perspectives (Benjamins, 1996), The Multilingual Internet: Language, Culture, and Communication Online (Oxford, 2007), and Computer-Mediated Conversation (Hampton Press, in press). She has a Ph.D. in Linguistics from the University of California at Berkeley and taught at California State University, San Bernardino, and the University of Texas at Arlington before joining the School of Library and Information Science at Indiana University in 2000.
