The ACT Assessment is one of the most widely-used tests for undergraduate (college) admissions. Many colleges and universities -- including UIC -- accept (and in some cases, require) ACT scores as part of the admissions process. The ACT Assessment is published by ACT, Inc. (formerly known as American College Testing, Inc.). For further information on the ACT Assessment, visit the ACT website.
Students wishing to take the ACT Assessment
have two options: the ACT National Testing Program, and the ACT Residual
Testing Program. Although the exams given under these two programs
are the same, the policies and procedures governing them are quite different.
To take the ACT Assessment under the ACT National testing program, a student must register with ACT. Registration can be done by mail, by telephone, or online. For more information on registering for the ACT Assessment under the ACT National testing program, click here.
The basic fee for taking the ACT Assessment under the ACT National testing program is currently $24.00. The exam may be taken at numerous testing centers throughout the United States -- including UIC -- and internationally. Scores from an ACT National exam administration may be reported to any college or university which accepts ACT scores.
The National ACT Assessment is given at
UIC twice each year -- once in the fall, and once in the late winter/early
spring. For exact test dates, and test center availability, contact
ACT.

Residual testing for the ACT Assessment is conducted by participating institutions for students applying to those schools. Registration procedures, fees, and testing schedules are determined by each individual institution, and vary widely from one school to another. For information on registering to take the ACT Assessment through Residual testing, contact the college or university to which you are planning to apply for admission.
*** Scores from ACT Residual
exam administrations ***
*** are valid ONLY for admission
to the institution where you take the exam. ***
For example, if you take the ACT Residual
exam at UIC, your scores can only be reported to UIC -- they cannot
be reported to any other school. For information on taking the ACT
Assessment under the ACT Residual testing program at UIC, click
here.
