STATEMENT OF UIC OFFICE OF TESTING
SERVICES POLICY
ON CORRESPONDENCE EXAMINATIONS
The UIC Office of Testing Services offers
test proctoring services to the general public for exams needed in connection
with correspondence coursework. These services are provided in accordance
with the following policies and procedures.
1. Advance Notification
Before exam materials are sent to
us, we require that either the institution sending the exam, or the student
taking the exam contact our office to request proctoring services.
Before we can agree to proctor any exam, we need to know the following
specific information:
A. how much time is allowed for
the exam
B. what, if any, materials or instruments
the examinee is allowed to use during the exam
C. any special accommodations (above
and beyond standard testing conditions) that must
be made
for the exam administration
D. how, and to whom, exam materials
are to be returned upon completion of the exam
Although we try to accommodate all reasonable
requests for our services, students and institutions wishing to avail themselves
of our proctoring services should be aware that there are limits to our
ability to provide these services, and we reserve the right to return,
without explanation, any test materials sent to us without advance notification.
2. Scheduling
Correspondence testing is done by appointment
only – under no circumstances do we administer correspondence exams
on a "walk-in" basis. Appointment availability is subject to
the commitments we have made for group test administrations. As there
are several dates each month, and a number of periods each year, when we
are unavailable for individual appointments, examinees should not assume
that our services will be available for any given date or period of time.
Examinees are encouraged to call for testing appointments at the earliest
possible date, so as to give themselves maximum scheduling flexibility.
Appointments for correspondence testing may be made by calling (312) 996-0919
during regular business hours.
3. Fees
The administration fee for correspondence
exams is $25.00 per test taken. The only exceptions to this fee are
made
for exams sent from the Guided Individual Study office of the University
of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, which are administered free of charge.
Administration fees are to be paid in cash, at the time of testing.
4. Return of testing materials
Unless other arrangements are agreed upon
in advance of testing, test materials will be returned to the originating
institution via U.S. mail. If courier service is desired, arrangements
must be made before the testing date, and the costs involved must be paid
by either the examinee or the originating institution. Guided Individual
Study exams are returned by inter-campus shuttle only, and courier service
is not available for them.
